AIADMK in Crisis: 3 MLAs Quit as Shanmugam–Velumani Camp Erupts

• Three AIADMK MLAs, Maragatham Kumaravel, MLA from Maduranthakam, Sathyabama, MLA from Dharapuram, and Jayakumar, MLA from Perundurai, submitted their resignation letters to Speaker J. C. D. Prabhakaran

• The three AIADMK MLAs submitted their resignation letters on Monday, May 25, 2026, at the Tamil Nadu Secretariat in Chennai

• The exit had a safety net. Sources say K. A. Sengottaiyan, now TVK Chief Coordinator and Minister, personally assured all three MLAs they would get to contest their home constituencies in the by-elections — and that promise was reportedly what pushed them over the line

• 30 out of 47 newly-elected AIADMK MLAs are likely to defect to support TVK
